So the other day I had a very relaxing night time hookah session at home. As I was smoking, the smoke started to get harsh so I did what any hookah smoker would, purge. What purging does to a hookah is when the smoke or vapor gets a bit harsh, what you should do is take your hose and blow through it, which will make all of the smoke/vapor in the glass base and the hookah stem go out through the purge valve. This usually cures it. But when I went to purge during this hookah session, I looked at my hose and it made me think.
I witnessed this last night. Did you?
I’m not jumping on the Jimmer fanatics bandwagon but I am very proud of what he did today in New York against the Knicks in Madison Square Garden. Jimmer was a great scorer in college at BYU but his game hasn’t really transitioned to the NBA very well. The reason for his up and down performances could be from multiple reasons. He has shown glimpses of his college shooting days in a Kings uniform this season but has been very inconsistent in his play on the court. One thing he has shown this season is that when given minutes, he makes the most out of it. Jimmer is definitely a rhythm player and playing for 5-10 minutes on and off the bench doesn’t work for that type of player. For the past month, his minutes have been a bit more consistent which allowed Jimmer to know that he’s going to play before the game. That always helps.
But tonight, Jimmer went off.
I want to have a Beats by Dre commercial moment so this is what I thought about doing. I’m going to change my ringtone to Aloe Blacc’ song “The Man” and hope that every time I walk into a store or restaurant I get a phone call so I can add a little swagger to my walk. So you can go ahead and tell everybody I’m the man……yes I am.
So after 9 months on the job at my now ex-employer, I decided to up and quit without giving two weeks notice. I wasn’t happy with everything that was going on behind the scenes so I had to make a decision for myself which usually ends up sounding like a selfish way to think. Don’t get me wrong though, I do believe in giving an employer two weeks notice if it’s worth it for me to stay there. But at the same time every situation is different and has its own identity. My ex-employers definitely took it personally, really really personally, I might add. I understand that to a local small business that someone just quitting on the spot without notice might screw things up royally for them but at the end of the day that doesn’t fall on me.
Unfortunately, no matter what team it is, they will always have “bandwagon fans” hopping on board from season to season. All it takes is one winning season. All of a sudden you will see people you’ve never seen watch a game for that team and now they’re starting to buy team merchandise like it’s the new fashion trend. With all of the teams in pro sports there’s a few teams that are most known for “bandwagon fans.”
Here is what I think of these people.
The fact that you don’t know something is never a barrier to doing.
It’s been a few years since I really looked at my weight or thought about my health. As days go by and my wife always making fun of my age by calling me an “old man,” I decided last night that I was going to go on a diet and start a daily exercise routine to get back in shape. Not to sound like I’m bragging or anything but I’ve been somewhat blessed with a body frame that will not go over a certain weight. Over the past couple of years I’ve been pretty much eating what I wanted when I wanted and haven’t gained much more than the daily 1-2 pounds but have also lost the 1-2 pounds the day after I gained it. I definitely know that my metabolism has slowed but my body can drop 10-15 pounds comfortably in 2-3 weeks with just a mild change in diet and little exercise. One thing that does help me out a ton during a diet is that I don’t have an addictive personality. I can drop things like bad eating habits as fast as you can snap your fingers. So follow this blog post for my journey and to see how I drop weight. But also look for updates on the front page of my blog as I will also do random check ins during my “get healthy” journey.
Wish me luck.
I think we all have thought of this when out on the road. Maybe this happens to you on your way to the store or maybe even on a long road trip. Say you’re driving down the street or highway and traffic on the road you’re on is pretty clear. Then all of a sudden a huge freight truck appears in front of you.
So what do you do?
